DUE WEST — Losing against Dixie in a de facto Region 1-A championship game last season has gnawed at the Ware Shoals High School baseball team for nearly a year.
Thanks to some timely hitting and a stout pitching performance by Chris Panapa, Ware Shoals exacted a little bit of revenge Wednesday.

Panapa shut down Dixie for 6 2/3 innings, striking out 10, to lead Ware Shoals to a 6-1 win to take control of Region 1-A.
"Last year, in the region championship game, we didn't play our best," Panapa said. "Coming back here to beat them on their home turf means a lot, especially because I got to pitch my senior year and beat them.
"Since our first practice, we've been saying we can't wait to get back to Dixie. This was a game we've been looking forward to all year."
