JORDAN AINLEY

Jordan Ainley was pushed into a challenging situation, having to occasionally play No. 1 for the Lander University men’s golf team as a freshman while junior first-team all-Peach Belt player, Rob Prior, was recovering from a hand injury.
Although Ainley said Friday he was not particularly pleased with how he played this year, the conference thought his efforts were good enough for him to be recognized as its men’s freshman golfer of the year.

“He was very deserving,” Lander coach Chipper Bagwell said. “I was going to be disappointed if he didn’t make it. He started out the season playing like a No. 3 or 4 position, and he’s been really steady. That’s what I like about him. He doesn’t get too fired up or depressed during a round.”
That, however, was not always the case with Ainley, who is from Hampshire, England. He averaged 74.79 strokes in 24 rounds with a best round of 71.
