I am researching a 19th century author named Rosa Aldrich. She was born February 1842 in Barnwell. She was a fascinating woman and hardly typical of her time.
She was the daughter of a prominent judge, and although an Episcopalian herself, she married the grandson of two prominent local Baptist ministers.
The marriage appears not to have been successful as it resulted in divorce, and Rosa resumed the use of her maiden name and changed the names of her two sons to her maiden name as well.
After an interesting life, she died Dec. 25, 1922, in Greenwood, but her body was taken back to Barnwell for burial.
Her son Alfred Proctor (Duncan) Aldrich died April 4, 1944, and is buried in Greenwood’s old Methodist cemetery.
I would like to request anyone having information on Rosa Aldrich or her descendants in Greenwood contact me at Justjennings@yahoo.com.
