An elderly Greenwood woman was hit by a pickup truck and died Monday afternoon.
Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox identified the woman as 80-year-old Colleen Hazel Smith, of 502 Ellison St. He noted the incident was ruled an accident.
According to a Greenwood police report, the wreck took place about 3:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Food Lion along Bypass 72 NE. Officers arrived and found the woman lying on the ground bleeding in front of a brown Ford pickup truck that was near the front entrance of the grocery store.

The driver of the truck, a 36-year-old Greenwood man, told officers he was traveling south in the parking lot at a low rate of speed and turned left in front of the main entrance, striking the victim. He said he never saw the woman and indicated he immediately called 911 after the collision.
A witness told officers he also saw the driver traveling slowly through the lot as he turned the corner and struck the victim, and said the elderly woman fell to the ground upon impact. The witness said he heard the woman's head hit the ground.
Emergency personnel took the woman to Self Regional Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Police inspected the vehicle involved and determined its windows were legally tinted. The report, however, indicated officers cited the man driving the pickup truck for careless driving in connection with the incident.
