ABBEVILLE — One man is fighting for his life following a Monday night shooting.
Officers from the Abbeville Police Department responded to reports of the incident in the parking lot of Haigler Street Apartments about 8:15 p.m. and found the 17-year-old victim lying on the hood of a car clutching his chest. The man was transported to Abbeville High School and airlifted to Greenville to be treated for a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was listed in stable condition early Tuesday morning.
Abbeville Police Chief Mark Hall said investigators had one man in custody in connection with the shooting. Officials identified the suspect as 20-year-old Quentin Dequavius Moore, of 703 Cambridge St. Hall said officers served warrants on the man for attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime Monday.
The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, but investigators said it stemmed from an argument. Officials noted the suspect and victim knew each other, though it was not immediately clear how closely acquainted the two men were.
Several witnesses who were on the scene when police arrived implicated the unidentified suspect as the shooter. The suspect had already fled the scene and officers canvassed the area.
They eventually located and apprehended him about 10:30 p.m.
