Charges were announced Tuesday against two teenage males alleged to have coerced a mentally-disabled Greenwood girl into performing sex acts on a Greenwood County School District 50 bus earlier this month, then posted video of it on Facebook.
According to Greenwood County Sheriff's Office investigators, juvenile charges will be brought forth on a 13-year-old and 14-year-old stemming from the allegations. The 14-year-old is expected to be booked on a count of disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity unlawful in connection with the incident. The 13-year-old juvenile faces a charge of exposure of private parts in lewd and lascivious manner.
Investigators said Tuesday evidence tied the two teens to the Sept. 6 incident. According to a GCSO incident report, the victim told officers three boys approached her on a school bus that day and asked her to perform oral sex on them. She indicated she did so with one of the boys. GCSO officials identified that teen as the 13-year-old suspect who faces charges in connection with the incident.
The 17-year-old victim's mother met deputies at the Greenwood Police Department on Sept. 8 after receiving a message on Facebook - posted that morning - which showed her daughter appearing to engage in oral sex, records indicated.
The victim told officers she did not know the name of the boy upon whom she performed the sex act, but indicated he attends Northside Middle School. When asked why she did it, the victim told officers, "So they will be my friends."
D50 officials said they were unable to share much information about the incident at this time, citing the ongoing nature of the matter. Officials did confirm that the three boys mentioned in the incident report are D50 students.
"We're cooperating with the investigation, and it's currently still an ongoing investigation," District Spokesman Johnathan Graves said.
