Saluda Town Council is scrambling to ensure hundreds of SCE&G customers in the town will have somewhere to pay their bills.
SCE&G announced in May it would close its payment center in Saluda. A release from SCE&G said the center’s closing at 106 N. Jennings St. is effective June 27.

“There is a shift in how customers are doing business with us; online transactions are trending up, in-person payments are trending down,” SCE&G public affairs manager Eric Boomhower said.
Boomhower and the release listed other options for customers in the town of Saluda and the rest of the county -- including a payment center in Ridge Spring. But Saluda administrator Tom Brooks said council wanted to prevent area customers from having to make that trip.
“We’ve gotten a lot of requests and a lot of feedback from the community, that they’re very upset about this,” Brooks said. “So we’re trying to keep a payment center here in town.”
