The mother of a Greenwood newborn was arrested Tuesday after traces of marijuana were found in the baby's system.
Drina Morgan, 31, of 219 Wheatfield Drive, Greenwood, was charged with unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with the incident.
Officials from the Greenwood's Department of Social Services office contacted agents from Greenwood County's Drug Enforcement Unit last week concerning a complaint they received from Self Regional Healthcare.
According to a Greenwood County incident report, Self Regional records indicated the suspect gave birth to a baby girl at the hospital July 25, and the newborn tested positive for marijuana. Traces of the drug did not show up in the baby's urine, but were evident in the child's meconium - stool samples.
DSS officials noted the child was placed in a home with family members, and the suspect's mother moved in to care for the suspect's four other children.
