A party along East Laurel Avenue led to one Greenville man's arrest early Friday morning in Greenwood.
Thomas Smith Jr., 20, of 220 Scalybark Road, Greenville, was charged with kidnapping and resisting arrest in connection with the incident.
Police responded to the East Laurel residence because of a 911 hangup about 12:30 a.m. and found several people in the front yard of the home.
According to a Greenwood police report, officers began talking to two men on the front porch, trying to discern what the nature of the call was when they heard a female involved in an argument inside. The officers attempted to enter the home and the two men tried to block them.
Moments later, the victim spilled out of the front door and told officers she had been trying to leave but someone would not let her.
The victim eventually identified the suspect, who was already standing on the front porch being questioned by officers. Police arrested the man after a short struggle. The victim gave police a statement saying when she tried to leave the home, the suspect locked the door and blocked it with his body. She indicated he refused to let her leave although she asked him to do so several times.
