A Ninety Six man had a bit too much to drink and wound up being pepper sprayed.
Shawn Kinard, 35, of 5513 Highway 178 South in Ninety Six, was arrested by the Greenwood Police Department late Monday night on charges of public drunk and resisting arrest.
According to a Greenwood Police Department report:
Kinard was lying near Kirksey Drive West in Greenwood wearing jeans and no shirt. Kinard's shoes were off and three feet away. A 12-ounce Bud Light can was nearby.
Officers reported a strong odor of alcoholic beverage from Kinard's person. A snoring and unresponsive Kinard was repeatedly nudged before awaking.
Kinard was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol vehicle but became uncooperative when officers attempted to buckle his seat belt. When advised to lean back, Kinard said, "I ain't got to do (expletive)." Kinard was eventually forced back and secured in the vehicle.
Kindard became aggressive when the vehicle stopped at the Greenwood County Detention Center. Kinard lunged at one of the officers. The second officer sprayed Kinard with a two to three second burst from a Freeze +P pepper spray.
"Mr. Kinard immediately became cooperative," and was escorted to the GCDC and was "properly decontaminated."
