A Saluda man died early Wednesday morning during a car wreck in Saluda County.
Saluda County Coroner Keith Turner identified the victim as George Smith, 28, of 257 Graham St., and noted he died at the scene of the crash.
According to officials, the single-vehicle wreck occurred about 4:40 a.m. along Old Charleston Road in Ninety Six. Preliminary reports from the South Carolina Highway Patrol indicated the victim was driving a 2002 Ford SUV at the time of the incident, traveling north. At some point, he veered off the left side of the road into a ditch and struck a tree. The impact caused the man to be ejected. Officials said he was not wearing a seatbelt when the collision occurred.
Turner said an autopsy is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. today in Newberry.
