Santa Claus recently answered a few questions from the Index-Journal, while in the midst of greeting youngsters at Greenwood Mall.
Santa Claus said he looks at least 10 years younger without his beard, but the jolly old elf said he doesn’t go too many months out of the year clean-shaven.
“I usually start growing it in June, to get it ready for Christmas,” Claus said. “But, it is the 100 percent real deal.”
A little bit of magic and help from different time zones enables Santa to deliver toys to all the world’s girls and boys in a single night, Claus said.
“I also have a lot of help from my elves, but the time zones make it a lot easier to accomplish in one night,” Claus said. “The reindeer don’t get as tired as you might think, thanks to magical flight. Santa has to have a lot of helpers. You can tell the helpers from the real Santa, because the helpers don’t have real beards.”

Magic, too, comes to the rescue when houses are not equipped with chimneys.
“I have a magic key that works only on Christmas Eve,” Claus said. “It allows me to go through doors closest to the Christmas tree, but it works no other time except Christmas Eve.
Whether one ends up on the naughty or nice list depends on whether “you have done naughty things,” Claus said. “Most people, and most kids, are generally nice. However, if you have done naughty things, a visit with me, followed by good days between then and Christmas could make up for at least three naughty days from before your visit.”
