A Laurens man faces drug charges following reports he tried to sell drugs to a pair of off-duty Greenwood police officers Monday evening.
Delario Byrd, 24, of 155 Christian Drive, was charged with distribution of marijuana in connection with the incident.
Two off-duty cops from the Greenwood Police Department encountered the suspect while jogging along Kitson Street just after 6 p.m. Monday. According to a Greenwood police report, a suspect asked the two officers if they smoke, and pulled out a clear bag containing 5.52 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana.
An on-duty officer arrived to the scene moments later and questioned the suspect, who said he did not know the two joggers were policemen. The man said a friend had just given him some "weed" to sell, and the officer found the bag of suspected pot in the suspect's pants pocket. Police then arrested the man.
