An in-house nurse was arrested Monday after admitting to stealing jewelry from a Greenwood woman.
Maxine Lewis, 45, of 230 E. Cambridge Ave., was charged with grand larceny more than $2,000, less than $5,000, in connection with the incident.
Officers responded to the victim Monday in the parking lot of the suspect's apartment complex.
According to a Greenwood County incident report:
The woman told officers the suspect was a home health care nurse at her residence along Briarwood Road until recently, and she discovered money missing from her checking account via a debit card. The victim said the suspect admitted to taking the money, and they'd reached an agreement for the woman to repay it.
The victim said she checked her home for missing items Monday and discovered several pieces of jewelry were gone. Among those a $5,000 diamond-encrusted tennis bracelet, a $1,000 pair of diamond earrings, an engraved sterling silver bracelet, a gold charm bracelet and a gold locket.
The suspect met officers and admitted only to taking the diamond-encrusted tennis bracelet. She indicated she stole the item Saturday and pawned it at a Greenwood pawn shop. She denied taking any other items. Deputies retrieved the bracelet from the shop and returned it to the victim. No other items were discovered pawned in the Greenwood area.
