A north Greenwood man faces multiple charges following a run-in with police Wednesday involving a stolen moped.
Marcus Deal, 40, of 113 Windtree Court, Greenwood, was charged with possession of stolen property, failure to stop on lawful command and simple possession of marijuana in connection with the incident.
According to a city police report, a patrolman spotted the suspect making an improper turn onto South Main Street while driving a moped Wednesday night and attempted to pull the vehicle over. The suspect continued to travel south for five blocks before pulling into an apartment parking lot on Tennessee Court. That is when the man fled behind one of the apartment buildings on foot and was apprehended a short time later.
Officers learned the vehicle was reported stolen out of Myrtle Beach. Officers also found a broken jar and two bags containing 18 grams of a substance thought to be marijuana near the moped. When questioned, the man said he did not know who he got the moped from and refused to say anything about the suspected drugs. Criminal history records revealed the suspect had more than three prior convictions.
