A scuffle at a Greenwood inn Thursday evening led to one man's arrest.
Edward Lopez, 38, of 306 Montague Ave., was charged with first-degree burglary, assault and battery and drawing weapon in affray in connection with the incident.
Officers responded to the Greenwood Motel, 306 Montague Ave., just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday because of reports of a fight involving a gun in the motel's parking lot.
According to a Greenwood police report:
Police found the suspect in his room, and located the weapon, a black BB gun. Officers noted the BB gun looked like a real handgun. According to the victim, Lopez entered his room pointing the gun at him and said, "You don't think I will shoot you." The victim said he then picked up a bat and began to hit the suspect with it, thinking the gun was real. He said the suspect returned to his room moments later and attempted to hit him with a bat of his own.
Lopez told police he went to the victim's room to show him the BB gun, and the man began hitting him with a bat unprovoked. He said the victim struck him in the head with the bat. Officers examined the suspect's head, and found no evidence of him being hit there.
Witnesses reported seeing Lopez pointing a gun at the victim and the victim trying to hit the gunman with a bat.
