Ready with a list of ideas, Andrea Mann is chomping at the bit to start work on the McCormick School District's Board of Trustees.
"I'm excited about starting work on this," she said. "I can't wait to get in there."
Last month, the board nominated Mann, a McCormick resident teaching special education in Edgefield County, to fill the seat vacated by Jerry Tracey earlier this year. Mann's now waiting through the confirmation process, which starts with McCormick County Council and ends with Gov. Nikki Haley's office.
"I've been on pins and needles waiting for the process to be finalized," she said.
According to school board policy, vacancies for unexpired terms - Tracey's seat is up for re-election in 2014 - are filled by an appointment from the governor upon recommendation of McCormick County Council. In this case, Council requested the school board seek a recommendation for the seat.
Mann was one of two candidates interviewed by the board for the empty seat. They both submitted applications and résumés before being selected to meet with the trustees and were evaluated with a scoring rubric.
County Council hasn't confirmed Mann's nomination yet, as members are still receiving legal advice on the process. Council wants to ensure trustees followed the proper procedure for advertising the open seat.
