Sandra Harrison said she knows things happen for a reason. That’s why everything has worked out the way they have for the upcoming one-night Embrace: A Worship Celebration for Women featuring Babbie Mason and presented by Sister to Sister.
Embrace: A Worship Celebration for Women is a way to empower women in the Greenwood area through the word of God, Harrison said. The event is 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Coronaca.
Harrison, who helped organize Sister to Sister in 2010, said she isn’t surprised everything came together for the service, especially with some of the changes that took place to secure the event.

There are several requirements that need to be met to bring Embrace: A Worship Celebration to a city or town. First, the host site needed to have specific equipment. Mt. Zion Baptist Church filled that requirement. There needed to be an all-women choir. Jade Fisher and Louise Robinson are helping amass choir members. And, there needed to be an accomplished violinist. The Rev. Valerie Mireb, of St. Paul Methodist Church in Ninety Six, is that violinist.
“Would we have known all that if we hadn’t been doing this? There’s so much here in Greenwood,” Harrison said. “Valerie comes with a tremendous background.”
