Reports of a trailer being stolen from Ashton Park led to an Anderson man's arrest Thursday morning.
Kenneth Clarke Jr., 44, of 160 Wexford Drive, Anderson, was charged with grand larceny more than $2,000 and less than $5,000 and receiving/possession of stolen goods less than $1,000 in connection with the arrest.
Deputies responded to a home along Mountain Shore Drive and found a small utility trailer abandoned in a ditch. According to a Greenwood County incident report:
The victim told officers he arrived at the scene, which was a home in the process of being built, Thursday morning and found a Gator Made tandem axle "car hauler" trailer missing from the residence. Officers noted it appeared someone tried to load the smaller trailer on the stolen trailer and leave the scene, but the utility trailer broke free and got stuck in the ditch where it was found.
While a deputy was at the scene on Mountainside Shore Drive with the victim, another deputy located a vehicle that was stopped roadside at the intersection of S.C. Highway 178 and U.S. Route 25 South. The suspect was the driver of the 1996 GMC Sierra pickup truck, which had the trailer attached to it. Officers positively identified the trailer as the one stolen, and the man was arrested. When officers processed the pickup truck, they learned it was stolen from Pickens County.
