Residents of Abbeville County rejected a change their government Tuesday, literally, as they voted 5,403 (54.98 percent) to 4,424 (45.02 percent) against changing the form of Abbeville's County government from a council form to a council-manager form of government.
The new form would have allowed Council to hire a manager who is in charge or running the day-to-day operations of the county, as set by Council. The switch would have placed the county auditor and treasurer under the authority of the manager.
The current council form is supplemented by a director who Council had hired and designated duties. The manager's duties would have been specified by state law.
