When 16-year-old Danielle Brock finished third at last year's Pepsi Youth Bowling Championships, she used that finish as motivation to practice harder in preparation of this year's event.
Turns out that work paid off.
Brock, as well as 15-year-old Bryan Hahlen, earned victories in the Under-20 Step Ladder Finals of the state bowling championships in Columbia on March 22. The two, who bowl at Expo 300 in Greenwood, each earned $250 scholarships, as well as a spot in the Junior Gold Championships, which will be contested July 12-18 in Buffalo, N.Y.

A bowler since the age of 5, Brock was the second of five seeds in the U20 Girls finals, which automatically placed her just two wins from the championship when the finals began.
Despite the opportunity to be a state champion, she stayed cool throughout.
