ABBEVILLE - Mutual frustration from Abbeville city officials and residents at the rate of a key road's repairs has been building. That frustration boiled over at the March 11 Abbeville City Council meeting.
"Please, dear God, let Church Street be done by then," Mayor Sarah Sherwood said in reference to the Abbeville Spring Festival in early May.
Sherwood later clarified her remarks, saying she shared the frustrations of residents about the slow pace of the project.

"People are getting antsy," Sherwood said. "We're certainly hoping we can get the project going."
While problems with Church Street, a key road near Court Square in Abbeville, were prevalent for a long time, the latest complaints stem from the very efforts to repair it.
With $112,000 in funds approved from the Abbeville County Transportation Committee on Jan. 14, 2013, construction was set for late 2013. Keith Dunn, project engineer, said Church Street had to be torn up to get to the foundation.
