A large portrait of Shykeria Lyle-Daja Watts served as the centerpiece amid a collection of candles, roses, teddy bears, dolls, balloons, a picture collage, and other items. It was a shrine to the Greenwood teen, arranged in a pile at the foot of an oak communion table.
Friends and loved ones turned out to eulogize Watts during a candlelight vigil Wednesday night at Way of Life Church in Greenwood. The 16-year-old Greenwood High School student died early Sunday morning in a car crash in Spartanburg County. More than 100 people were on hand to pay tribute to Watts and celebrate the 10th grader who was remembered as “Shy.”

Watts died early Sunday morning at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center from massive head trauma she sustained in a crash along Interstate 26 just south of Woodruff. She was traveling in a Crown Victoria that veered and slammed into a guard rail, causing the teen to be ejected from the vehicle.
