The South Carolina state trooper who pulled over, ticketed and jailed Cincinnati Bengals defensive end, Sam Montgomery, early Wednesday has been suspended without pay, according to a statement released by Sherri Iacobelli, communications director for the S.C. Department of Public Safety.
“Really? Wow,” Montgomery said on his cellphone Friday afternoon.
According to Iacobelli, Montgomery’s arrest was lawful. But she added Lance Cpl. R.S. Salter, of Troop 2, was suspended without pay Thursday, pending the outcome of an investigation by the Department of Public Safety Office of Professional Responsibility surrounding the circumstances of Wednesday’s incident. She added Salter’s in-car video of the traffic stop will be released Monday.
Salter has been with the patrol since 2000.
