A man who formerly was heavily involved in the redevelopment project at the Inn on the Square in Uptown Greenwood was arrested and reportedly is facing federal indictment.
Public records show Michael P. Luby, 54, was arrested March 18 by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department in North Carolina and jailed while waiting extradition to another state.
On Sunday, the (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Luby was charged in a federal indictment in connection with a fraud scheme involving an RV park in Virginia. The Pilot reports Luby was charged with wire fraud and aggravated identity theft.
The case was unsealed in U.S. District Court after Luby’s North Carolina arrest, according to the Pilot report.
In the Virginia RV park case, Luby is essentially accused of fleecing a partner out of more than $300,000 and walking away from the project.
