Index-Journal newsroom staff brought home 55 awards during Saturday's South Carolina Press Association awards banquet in Columbia.
For the newspaper, this year's winnings set a record. Last year, the staff collected 38 awards. Once again, the newspaper captured the President's Cup award and received second place in general excellence.
In all, staff collected 21 first-place awards, 15 second-place awards, 16 third-place awards and two honorable mentions.
"While we are a small daily newspaper serving a four-county area of the state, we are large in our ability to produce the type of stories our readers need," said president and publisher Judith M. Burns.
