Greenwood County Council heard information this week about the possibility of a park being constructed, to the county’s specifications, by a private entity.
During Council’s administration and finance committee meeting, county officials talked about the potential of a park being paid for and built by Trustmark Construction Corporation. The prospective park would be built between Westbrook Drive and Tackett Way, near Calhoun Road and Beaudrot Road.
“The county has been approached by a developer (Trustmark Construction Corporation) that would like to build a park,” county manager Toby Chappell said. “This (developer) has built some homes/apartments, and he gets a benefit if they are within so many feet of a park. So, what he has offered is to build the park and donate it. In addition to approaching the county, (the developer) has also approached another organization, namely the (Greenwood Family YMCA).”
Councilman Robbie Templeton said he has spoken with officials at the YMCA, and those officials said the YMCA also is mulling the possible park. Templeton noted such a park would be beneficial to the community no matter which entity ended up accepting it.
