DUE WEST -- Many athletes at Erskine College will say one big reason they chose Erskine was because of the family-like environment. The small campus and homey confines of Due West lend itself to a very close-knit community, which attracts a lot of students.
For baseball player Destin Nichols, that sentiment rings even truer.
Nichols, a redshirt freshman catcher, plays for his first cousin in Kevin Nichols, the winningest coach in Erskine baseball history.

"It's cool, man, really cool," Destin Nichols said of playing for his cousin. "He doesn't treat me any differently than anyone, obviously, but it is cool to have the same last name. He's down in the third base box when I'm hitting, it's just fun to be a part of."
Two years ago when Destin Nichols was trying to decide where to go to college, he had a lot of offers. As a standout quarterback for Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Fla., Nichols had plenty of scholarship offers to play football in college to go along with his multitude of baseball choices.
But Erskine always stood out, in part because of his cousin Kevin.
